Hawaiian Ocean Adventures LLC is a Hawaiian-owned and -operated company that operates on the island of O‘ahu. It is owned and operated by Nakoa Prejean.
Nakoa was born and raised in the Hawaiian Islands. He was introduced to the sport of canoe sailing at the age of 17 when his family began the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association (HSCA) to perpetuate the art of Hawaiian Canoe Sailing in 1987, designated the Year of the Hawaiian. As his interest in the sport grew he took on the challenges of helping run the HSCA and to this end is currently the Vice President of the HSCA, a position he has held for the past four years.
As a means of perpetuating the Hawaiian culture, Nakoa began learning the art of canoe building from master canoe builder Kirk Clarke over 20 years ago. Today he continues the traditions of canoe building and uses his canoes for day to day operations as well as inter-island voyaging.Nakoa currently holds a United States Coast Guard license and has logged over 26,000 blue water sailing miles as well as hundreds of inter-island crossings. He was also fortunate enough to have been selected as crew on board Makali‘i, the Big Island voyaging canoe, and sailed on her maiden voyage from Hawaii-Tahiti-Marquesas-Hawaii by means of traditional Polynesian navigating.
We hope that you will join us and come share in our love of the Hawaiian culture.
